The legal team and staff at Avrek Law Firm have committed their time and energy to support multiple community causes across Orange County and Southern California. Among the causes and organizations we support are the Special Olympics, the DriveSafe Scholarship Program, Walk Like MADD in Huntington Beach and at the Someone Cares Soup Kitchen in Costa Mesa, CA. We feel very strongly that these organizations deserve our support and are of great value to our community. Most recent event was the Aliso Viejo bike safety day.
DriveSafe Scholarship Program: Connecting With Young Drivers
As part of its active involvement in the community, Avrek Law has launched the DriveSafe Scholarship Contest — an essay contest that exposes the risks of distracted driving. This educational program gets teens involved in researching the risks of talking and texting while driving.
This is only one of the community involvement efforts that we take very seriously at our firm. There’s no question this is a significant issue among driving-age teenagers today. Consider these alarming statistics from Distraction.gov:
- 10% of all drivers under the age of 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crash. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted.
- A quarter of teens respond to a text message once or more every time they drive.
We feel a deep responsibility to taking part in community activities that will increase the quality of life and protect residents from harm.
The Special Olympics
Our firm is involved in support of the Special Olympics, a sporting event that continues to change lives by offering sports training programs for those who are living with intellectual impairments or disabilities. The organization has over 17,259 athletes and 15,000 coaches and volunteers. There are 12 different sports training programs, including aquatics, track & field, basketball, bocce ball, golf, gymnastics, bowling, floor hockey, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball, and programs run throughout the year.
The programs have proven to be a wonderful outlet for individuals who are suffering from various types of intellectual disabilities, and allows them to improve their level of physical fitness, motor skills, and enjoy interacting with others. The boost in self-confidence and joy of sharing and participating in team sports has proven to be exceptionally valuable, both to the individual and to the families who are involved with their loved one.
Avrek Law Firm is proud to be involved in both the DriveSafe Scholarship Contest and the Special Olympics as well as other programs, and we urge others in our community to find out more about the good works of these outstanding organizations.
